Help Us Build Our No-Kill Sanctuary!

Happy Tails Animal Sanctuary is committed to building an outstanding "no-kill" animal sanctuary in Columbia, Missouri. This educational and learning facility is exciting in terms of its long term potential to our community and the surrounding area.

For the last few years HTAS has utilized foster homes to house the many abused and neglected animals we have cared for. The time has come for us to begin our quest to raise funds for a permanent facility where we would be able to house and care for many more animals than our foster homes can accommodate.

We are starting a capital campaign to purchase land and begin the construction on a permanent facility. Estimated cost of our project is approximately $400,000. We will continue our campaign until we have raised all of the necessary funds. Fundraisers are planned and as we raise awareness about our organization we realize our role in the community is vital. As our dream progresses, we have come to understand the respect the public has for our work, mission and the services we provide. We are becoming a valuable outlet for youth and volunteerism in our community and the surrounding area.

Since HTAS receives no city, state or federal funding we rely solely on donations, fundraisers and the good will of strangers who love animals and want to help. We do not charge a surrender fee for any animal we take into the sanctuary. Your support is crucial for us to continue our mission for years to come.

A new no-kill sanctuary is very expensive and we are asking all our wonderful internet animal lovers to help make this dream a reality. If everyone would contribute just $20 we could reach our goal in no time. Anyone that contributes $20 will have their name listed on a plaque which will be located in the lobby. Please indicate how you would like it to read when sending your donation. Individuals/businesses who contribute $500 will receive individual plaques and individuals or businesses who contribute $1,000 will have a commemorative brick engraved and placed in our beautiful atrium. The red bricks are normal size and will come with black lettering. Each brick may only be engraved with a total of 15 letters on each brick and only have 3 lines. All spaces and punctuation count as "letters." Remember all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Please complete the form at the bottom of this page if you are interested in purchasing a commemorative brick.

Our sanctuary will be a "cageless facility" where animals will be housed together in small groups to help relieve the stress of being isolated and abandoned. The dog section will house approximately 30-40 dogs and is a new concept in care for animals. They will have a place to run and play in a special fenced area and the volunteers will work with them on "doggie manners" and training if age appropriate. The cattery, which will house about 15-20 cats, will be a wonderful place for our feline friends to gather, also in groups, to lay in the sun by the window, climb a cat tree and purr the day away or just sit in the lap of a volunteer and be petted.

Select areas would be reserved for treatment rooms, visitation/play areas, area for incoming animals in need of evaluation, adoption area, and a transition room where certain animals could stay until ready to join the group.

This facility would also have an educational center which would host various programs for the community such as spay/neuter awareness, behavioral seminars and other programs of interest to the community.

This sanctuary will be a wonderful, loving facility where the animals can wait for good homes and their forever families in safety, happiness, love and comfort. You can make a difference - we all can. Please send your tax deductible gift today. Mailing address only is: 5900 South Rangeline Road, Columbia, MO 65203. All our animals send a lick and purr for your compassion and support!!
