HTAS accepts animals (primarily cats and dogs) on a space available
basis.
We offer safe refuge, extensive medical care and abundant amounts
of love to every animal in our care.
Each animal is given a comprehensive medical exam which includes
all vaccinations, de-worming, feline leukemia test for cats, heartworm
test for dogs, microchipped and spay/neuter surgery.
Our prospective adoptive families must undergo a strict screening
process, as we want to ensure all our animals are placed in the
best and most appropriate homes available.
Each animal in our care is special to us and we know their individual
traits. We make every effort to match the characteristics of the
pet with the wishes and capacity of adoptive families.
HTAS is committed to building a premier animal sanctuary
and educational center where we will be able to collaborate with
various agencies and businesses to provide educational and awareness
campaigns regarding animal welfare.
HTAS receives no city, state or federal funding and relies solely
on donations we receive from
all you wonderful people.
HTAS has operated an educational program in conjunction with the Boone County Juvenile Justice Center since 2003 working with youth offenders.
HTAS does not charge a surrender fee to the individuals relinquishing
animals like many of the shelters do.
HTAS works with the Columbia Public School System in educational
programs throughout the district. We also work with various other
youth groups within the surrounding area.
Also periodically operates a pet therapy program with various nursing homes in the area.
